Brain Complexity Across Scales: Structural, Functional, and Emergent Aspects of Consciousness

This special issue leaves room for the exploration of the complexity of the brain through a multiscale approach, relating structure-function relationships at different scales with the emergence of consciousness. Contributions may directly investigate the mechanisms of consciousness but may also analyze the fundamental processes that accompany it, such as perception, memory, attention and sensory integration. Studies that adopt a mechanistic approach aimed at explaining the ‘how’ of neural, perceptual and cognitive phenomena through theoretical, computational or experimental models are welcome. Those contributions might also explore the mechanics of the senses, their interactions and the relationships between perception, behavior and response to stimuli, integrating data and models for a deeper understanding of brain dynamics.
